These guys are amazing!
If you want honest and sincere mechanics, this is the place to come. A friend had just taken his car to Akin and confirmed that indeed the reviews we read were true. When I brought my car in and met Akin, I immediately felt at ease. They treated me so well that it reminded me of the type of service you would find from a small town, mom-and-pop type of business. Pretty much, the type of service that is very difficult to find nowadays. My car needed serious work. It was the second time in two weeks my CEL came on. The first time, I was out of town so I went to a mechanic nearby. My car reported a cylinder misfire and the mechanic did a [very] quick inspection and suggested new spark plugs. They changed the spark plugs, and unfortunately, two weeks later my CEL came on again and my car began to sputter on the highway. After the weekend passed I brought my car into Akin’s on a Monday and by that afternoon he called to inform me that I had a blown head gasket. He was able to find the cause of it all [water pump and coolant leaking] and he was very straightforward about the options I had. Akin and his brother Aydin replaced the head gasket and water pump, rotated my tires, installed new brakes, and changed the oil, all at an excellent rate that I don’t believe I would have got from anywhere else. They even offered to wash my car! Akin also had a video of where he found leaks and showed me all the parts they removed and replaced. They are the first shop to ever recommend I come in a week later so that they can inspect my car again to make sure everything is going well. If your car needs work and you want professional, high quality service from mechanics that will give it to you straight and treat you well, this is the place to go. Extremely recommended.
Friday evening driving home from work
my radiator blew on the highway. My usual mechanic lives far away and with a busted radiator, commuting there was out of the question. I just moved to the area and a friend mentioned this shop from all the great ratings. I called Akin’s up early on Saturday morning and asked to make an appointment. I was told to just bring the car in and they would work on it throughout the day. Let me just say, the customer service at his place is GREAT. From the second I got to the shop, up until I picked up the car (which was after hours), it was a VERY pleasant experience. Every review about this place is correct. I didn’t think that if I called on a Saturday morning, that they would even entertain the idea of adding more to their appointments, but they did. Heck, they even gave me a ride home after I dropped off the car. Don’t waste time with other shops, go straight here, you will not regret it. You cannot find this kind of honesty in mechanics anymore. The professionalism, rates, and quality of work are unmatched. I am recommending this place to all my friends. UPDATE: 4/5/2011 Had trouble with my window on my car, the motor was worn out. Akin got me an appointment and all fixed within a day. I cannot recommend this place enough
Five Star Auto repair shop!
I had a steering/suspension issue & for 2 years showed it to different mechanics & they never figured out what the problem was. Then I found Akin’s last month. Akin’s auto repair diagnosed the problem with my steering & suspension very quickly & advised a plan to repair it. I also got a tune up & my car is working great again. They have very good prices & explain everything & treat you nicely and are honest. They tell you what’s needed & what’s not needed. They also gave me their 15% off my first repair! I definitely will be going to them again for car repair & service.
You have a problem, he has your solution !
Often times you have to wonder who do other mechanics go to when they’re stuck. Apparently they go to Akin (no joke I saw 3 other mechanics in the shop taking their problems to this problem solving mechanic). So why do they go to him? Because his prices are fair, he takes time to explain to you what went wrong and why (and will even show you your old part as well), and guarantees his work. So why should YOU go to them? Well if you want a mechanic who’s honest, gives you excellent time estimates, gives you a fair price, and specializes in diagnosing the stuff other mechanics have given up on… why go to anyone else?
Top Notch Service !
I found Akin listed in Craigs list a few months ago and he gave me a great quote on fixing my brakes. I took in my vehicle with a time crunch as I was needed at my office. Not only did he do the work quickly to accomodate my schedule but he gave me a great deal on the work provided. Recently I blew my head gasket and needed a new engine. I got 4 quotes and Akin’s was by far the most reasonable. We spoke extensively as to what he was going to do and he not only proceeded to be a man of his word but he far exceeded my expectations on the job. Akin and his brother run this shop. This is one of those occurences where you stumble upon a provider that you know you will be working with for years and years because of the trust and work exhibted. I recommend this shop to anyone seeking quality service at reasonable prices with a provider you can trust
I have used Akin’s repair service !
I have used Akin’s repair service on two occasion’sand have found him to be a very professional business owner as well as an excellent mechanic! My first experience with Akins was to have a transmission installed in my SUV.When i left the car with him in the morning, it was ready a few hours later!Very fast service at a fantastic price. The second time i experienced a problem is when the car would not start. When it was towed into the shop, He quickly troubleshooted the problem and found a bad relay not working( i might ad it was hidden very well) Akins shop is very clean and he has a waiting area with ALL the comforts of a 4 star hotel Seriously! I would recommend Akins repair service to anyone that wants a job done right the first time with excellent customer care as well.
have nothing but good things to write about Akin’s Auto Repair. I googled 5 star auto repair shops a few months ago, and Akin’s came up right away. I went to his auto garage, and he found my problem right away. I came back to Akin’s at a later date, and asked him to fix my truck.
There is no doubt that he did an excellent job, and made my truck a reliable vehicle again. I found Akin to be honest, and knowledgeable. He knows his job, inside and out. He delivered 5 star work as promised. I cannot remember ever being so satisfied with the work of a mechanic, as I am with Akin’s work.
I would highly recommend Akin’s Auto Repair to anyone that needs vehicle repairs or service. Akin’s is simply the best.
Timing belt changed, it was over due !
i have 2005 Lexus GX470, and I needed to have timing belt changed, it was over due. I shopped around for best price with quality service. I have found this place on internet and checked the reviews and called him. Not only he gave me the best price around town, and he also was very kind to explain the process and job in details and the most ,he offered nationwide warranty for year!!!! I really don’t think that you can find any better deal anywhere else…I strongly suggest that you should check with this gentleman before you get anything done on your car/suv..
Thank you
I found this place via yelp and I got my 2011 BWM 328i serviced here around June, 2018.
The owner is honest, straightforward, and upfront about everything; the things that need servicing, pricing of parts and labor, and estimated time of completion.
As many of you know, the 2011 BMWs have a coil and spark-plugs problem (these burn out), and I needed to get my entire set replaced.
I also needed an oil change.
There’s usually 5-10 folks waiting in line even before the business opens; so be sure to get in early.
PS: Speaking to the technicians on site, I got the sense that one of their top problems is folks calling too frequently for an update on the service status of their vehicle. My experience has been that they are very prompt; so if you can, avoid calling them after dropping off your car and wait for them to call you for with an update – just my 2 cents.
Best auto repair shop I have been to by far!
Their efficient service as well as customer service do their 600+ reviews/5 star average justice!!!
Very friendly workers- both attentive and will remember you personally. They greeted me and my boyfriend when we had come by to pick up the vehicle a couple days after dropping it off, and we both agreed these guys were very thorough and generous. These guys aren’t trying to skimp you. They gave me several discounts when I had come in to replace my BMW 128i starter as well as flush brake fluids, etc. They also have the necessary software to run the full diagnoses on BMWs and informed me that there was a recall regarding my make/model and to report to the manufacturer- that of which I probably would have never known if it wasn’t for their access to the expensive system.
I have been to many flops of auto shops but I can appreciate Akin’s Auto Repair’s integrity and work ethic. Very honest men and very straight to the point. My car was in and out all within less than half a week.
My BMW X3 had “Service Engine Soon” light turned on a few days ago
Initially I called a local dealership to make an appointment and found out I had to wait 2 days and have to leave my car for at least half a day. I then need to arrange a transportation….The worst part is that I have no idea what kind if problem they may find and how much would it cost.
So I searched Yelp for a BMW mechanics and found Atkin’s. He told me over the phone that it would take 5 minutes and cost nothing to find out the cause of the light. I drove to his shop and literally it took less than 2 minutes for him to connect a terminal to my X3, and told me that the GAS CAP might have been open recently or it has a small leak. Mr. Atkin then told me it cost $40 to replace the cap at a BMW dealer. That was it. The error light has been turned off. What a big relief it was. I will definitely take my X3 to him next time when It needs a service. The factory warranty has been expired and I found an honest mechanics
Well, I was wondering how any business can have almost 700 all five star reviews
but it’s not that hard to figure out if you visit these guys. First of all, I never write reviews for people who ask me. I only do it because I feel strongly that a business needs to be recognized (for good or bad). From minute one I trusted these guys with my car and my business. They totally know what they are doing and will not up-charge you or try to use gimmicks to make you get services you don’t need. Their charges were completely reasonable, especially for working on a foreign car. Their customer service is truly the best I have ever seen for any auto repair shop. They explain everything they are doing and clearly take a lot of pride in their work. Their shop is clean, friendly, and runs efficiently. You won’t regret taking your car here!
I went to Akin’s to change my Honda’s timing belt and they have the best price in the area.
The owner did the job and he accommodated our schedule and everything went perfectly. Recommend!
This was my best car repair shop experience, ever!
https://www.akinsautorepair.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/08/5-Star-Review-300×57.png” alt=”5 stars rating” width=”100″ height=”19″ />
My Honda Civic’s front suspension failed badly. Akin explained in details what was broken, and showed me the parts that he is going to put, he didn’t try to over sale. He just fixed what needed to be repaired. He gave me a very fair price (around $600). If I had gone to Honda, I would have paid double at least ($1200) or more. I had a bad experience at Honda Palo Alto last time.
Akin is also high tech, he takes video of the repairs, his websites is great. I am all for customer education, and Akin got it right. No BS to the customer. He deserves 6 stars! It’s a family owned business. He offered a free nation wide warranty for his repair. I really felt that the guy won’t let you go until you’re 100% satisfied.
And by the way, other people had mentioned it: his repair shop is super clean!
I will go again :)
honest, fast auto repairs. I have done servicing and some repairs for both of my cars
(Acura TSX and Honda fit) at Akin’s and based on my experience, he is the best guy for the job. While handing over your car to him, he will give you a quote in advance. During inspection if he finds out something else is also not right and needs your attention, he will call you and tell you what needs to be repaired / replaced and what is the cost for it. (Unlike dealers) He will not pressure you to actually repair it right away. He is very affordable and honest about price. My 30K servicing with oil change, transmission fluid drain and air filter replacement cost me just $170. This would have most more more than $300 at any Acura dealer.
Last time, he could not fix my honda fit’s engine issue and even though he spent almost half day in investigating that, he did not charge me a dime because he could not find and fix the issue. I will recommend him to anyone for auto repairs.
P.S: His phone system sucks….but the overall experience is very nice, so I keep going back to him.
I know Akin since some time and I know that if I have a problem in my car
he will definitely take care of it, or direct me to the right way. I never fixed my car over there, but I went there a week ago with a shuddering problem. I thought it would be an easy fix, Akin tried my car and told me this must be a transmission issue. Of course this just kept me surprised for a minute, I have a Camry 2012 with around 75K miles. This car should be going until 150K – 200K with no issues (other than normal maintenance). No way that a Camry Transmission would have problems @ 75K. So the most important part here, and the main reason I am writing this review, is that this guy just referred me in the right direction. Once he told me its a transmission issue, I started looking into my documents, and discovered that Toyota has sent me a letter back in 2014, mentioning that the car might experience shuddering during light throttle conditions (between 25 and 50 mph). I was like, yeaaah thats the same exact problem I am having and Toyota is aware of. Actually in this letter Toyota has mentioned that they are extending the warranty on the Torque Converter of the Transmission (cause it might fail at some point and cause this shuddering). Of course in addition to Akin’s help in figuring out the problem, I went to couple of transmission professionals just to confirm that its actually a Torque Converter issue and I did my online research to be more positive. So the car is having 76K and the warranty is extended until 8 years of the first purchase of the car or 150K. So I was very lucky. The next step I did an appointment with the Toyota Dealer and they took it from there. It took them 2 days to diagnose and fix the problem. Of course they had to order the Torque Converter, which runs around $900 and for labor its another $900. Probably the entire cost is almost 2K. Of course I paid nothing cause of this letter of warranty extension. It has been a nightmare since some time, this shuddering was there since a long time and I have no clue whats going on, but Akin was able to point me to the right direction. Of course he didn’t charge me for that. I’ll most probably need a brake job very soon and Akin will be the one. I am sure Akin that you read all comments and I am definitely you will remember my 2012 Black Camry that was in your shop exactly a week ago.
I was so extremely happy after taking my car in to get my rear breaks fixed.
I found them through Yelp after I decided that paying over $300 at Toyota was not worth it. Akins charged me around $190 so that was a steal! My breaks have stopped squeaking and work great!
I made an appointment a week in advance. I suggest doing this because there was already a line once I got there at 8:30 am. They were really busy, but Aydin checked me in quickly. They had great customer service. Akin himself came into the waiting room to check in with each person to make sure we all had our cars in. They told me I would wait at least 2 hours. But my car was done in an hour and a half maybe even less!
I complimented Akin when I was paying and he said “We really try. We need more people, but it’s hard finding people who know what they are doing. We can’t just hire anybody.” That just made me so happy because they really do care about the type of service people receive when they come to the shop.
Some things to know about the shop: the sign to the shop isn’t super visible and you can only see it from one side depending on the direction you’re driving in. They do have free wifi in the waiting room (I brought work to do while waiting, they have many outlets as well). Bathroom is cleaner than expected for an auto shop.
I had a great experience with this auto shop and I definitely will be coming back in. Thank you Akins Auto Repair!
Akin is the best and pretty awesome to chat with him
I have never seen such a friendly guy. Thanks to yelp and for all the good reviews here which made me to take my first car to this place. I was very happy and found a place that I can trust to take my car. My 2009 Toyota Camry got new front break pads and new front shocks. And he also told me that I don’t need an oil change now and gave me and discount since I was paying by cash.
Also when I took the second time my car for some kind of weird sound (by mistake since this is my first and did not know what it was), he explained me that whenever the engine is hot the fan will run automatically and that is all normal and fine. You are all good. And I also told him that I was feeling the accelerator pedal is bit hard to press and so on. But he was really kind in driving my vehicle and told me your car is all good. Since you are knew and this is your first car you are just feeling that. So don’t worry everything is fine. He then also told me to drive safe and may god bless you. Such a nice and honest person.
All the good reviews here in yelp are very true. He is simply superb.
Thank you Sir for addressing all my concerns. And yes thanks for a good reference that you gave me for installing the backup camera.
Super Super Happy :)
Akin is the best, reliable, honest and awesome person
Needed to have the water pump on my 2008 BMW 328i replaced.
Akins Auto Repair provided the most affordable estimate and efficient quality service! They ordered the water pump, which took 2 days to receive. As soon as the water pump was received, they immediately fixed my car and called me the same day to pick it up!
Great experience – I highly recommend Akins Auto Repair !
First review ever, but I am compelled to do so after my experience!
About six months ago I replaced my shocks at some tire-shop on Stevens Creek Blvd. Wow, total mistake!!! After that hack-job, my car was never the same. I contemplated selling it and getting a new car… I couldn’t stop worrying about my car breaking down from the nasty sounds it makes when it went over bumps and how badly the steering-wheel vibrated.
Before giving up on my car, I decided to see if someone can properly diagnose and fix them problems without another bad experience. After all a new car is much more expensive than what I can afford right now.
After hours of reading reviews, I found Akin’s Auto Repair! When I brought my car in, Mr. Akin went for a test drive with me so he could reproduce the issues I had described earlier.
The test drive took about 15 minutes, Mr. Akin was able to reproduce every issue and explained to me the possible causes each time he reproduced an issue. During the process, I realized I am next to someone who is honest and really enjoy and care about his work!
Today I got my car back… WOW, what a difference!!! I drove off the lot and before turning onto the main street, I decided to turn back so I can thank Mr. Akin! I am COMPLETELY HAPPY with my car!!! I didn’t shop around but I know the prices are competitive. Given the quality of work, it’s an AMAZING BARGAIN!!!
There are a few things in life that one can truly appreciate. Car is such a big part of my life, I am a single father and drive about 70 miles each day between work and kids’ schools and activities. Finding a trust-worthy mechanic for my car is one I put up there!
Thank you, Mr. Akin!!! I will be taking my car and all future cars to your shop from now-on! You just gained a lifelong customer!
My review for Akin’s is way overdue. It was the first business I found on Yelp years ago that allowed me to trust Yelp.
I have been bringing my cars here for many years. I have brought and referred several people to Akin (I’m still waiting for my commissions check Akin).
Akin is one of the most personable and passionate guys you will meet. No auto shop owner cares more about cars and is more hard-working than Akin. He is always at his business. He may not know or remember your name but he will remember what you drive. I was known as the guy who drove black truck. I will warn you that it’s not a good idea to piss him off as I have seen customers do that. Akin will do everything in his power or within his network to fix your problems.
His prices are reasonable and fair and device top notch. Because of this, he does get extremely busy at times.
My main tip here is that it is easy to miss the entrance as the shop is not exactly viable. SLOW down when you are near since you need to make a tight right turn into what literally are a bunch of garages.
Go support this local business and bring your car here.
My wife and I have been going to this shop for years, and we only have positive things to say about Akin’s and his team.
Akin, Noah who often works the desk, and the rest of his team are simply outstanding. They offer great rates, they are honest, trust-worthy, professional, caring, direct, they turn around your car quickly, and they know what they are doing. These guys are everything you were looking for in an auto repair shop. As another reviewer said… no bull****. I usually get auto repair work reviewed by an independent mechanic, and each time Akin’s team has been right on the nose and have been just outstanding.
The only repair shop you need in San Jose.
(Earlier Post): I can’t say enough about Akin’s. Fast, thorough, reliable, honest. The cleanest shop I have seen, you can eat off the floors. Very easy to work with, very accommodating to customers/clients. Very customer focused. They work with integrity and have high quality workmanship. Best auto shop in the San Jose area hands down.
(Earlier Post): I was referred to Here by Adems smog testing. I’ve had my car serviced here twice since then: one for suspension replacement , another one for more major service. The work actually came in at under the original estimate. I had another mechanic look over the work and he said that their workmanship was great, he couldn’t find any issues. They seem to be honest have good integrity and do excellent work here at the shop. I would highly recommend.
A great, dependable place to fix your car issues.
# Tip – If your car doesn’t work properly “sometime”, bring it in when you have the issue.
My AC was blowing hot air but only when the weather got warm. Akin said what he would do and I was off to the waiting room.
Waiting room has a big sofa, TV, bathroom, slot machine, and water. It’s a time for you to bond with other customers while you watch news. Wifi is very fast so bring your laptop and work.
My AC was recharged and good to go in 1 hour for $45!
Not sure if this fixed my issue, but so far it’s working. Thanks Akin!

Update : I had to bring in my car again because it was blowing hot air again. Turns out Honda / Acuras often have issues with the compressor. So once Akin diagnosed the issue, he gave me a quote of $800-900. Absolutely no pressure. He said to take my time and get quotes from others and let him know what I chose to do. I really appreciated this.
I went to other places.
Acura Honda Connection – $1200-$1300
Acura dealership – “at least” $2500 (yes, they quoted me that way)
Akin’s – $800-900
I figured out from reading online, that my Acura RL needed the field coil changed so I ended up doing this myself costing me $100 + 3-5 hours of labor + a lot of bruises from being a newb
I think Akin’s price is very fair. Given that a new Denso condenser costs $400-500 for my car online, he’s only charging $300-400 for the labor.
Akin can be a bit loud and intimidating, but he does great work. Thumbs up!
This repair shop was referred to me by my cousin who once had his A/C and suspension fixed at Akin’s.
He told me the price of those repairs turned out to be much cheaper than other quotes he got around the town. Some people charged less but gave a Mickey Mouse job…but according to my cousin, his car has been running great & A/C has been functioning as it should (even though those repairs were done nearly a year ago). That being said, I took my “daily commute” car to Akin’s for the first time (despite a little skeptical) . Believe it or not, I was extremely pleased with the experience. First of all, the representatives of the shop were very kind and friendly. The minute I walked in, I’ve been rendered with warm greeting (as if I was a regular). The waiting room was also roomy & cozy. It even has a slot machine set up (for those who want to kill time). As for the price, I would not complain too much either. All my repairs & basic maintenance turned out to be under hundred bucks each….and the car is now running as silk. The only expensive catagory that I didn’t do (which I originally thought i needed to replace or tender) was my brakes. For that, the technician told me that they should still have some life left thus no need to rush into the spending…knowing of my budget issue at the time. However, he did recommended me to take the car back for the job after another 3000 miles. I was extremely pleased with the shop’s honesty on that part (as many others would usually rush customers into all sorts of unnecessary tasks just for the quick money on the spot). I’ve been putting on some new miles since the last visit to Akin’s, but is still a distance away from the 3000 miles target. When that time comes, I will definitely go back to AAR (as well as to take my other main car there for the periodically check up).
I recently came home from a cross-country trip when my A/C went out in Bakersfield at the end of July!
My wife, my dog and I drove home dripping in sweat and was frustrated at now having to pay to have the A/C fixed.
I looked on Yelp and found Akin’s Auto Repair with over a 100 5-star ratings. I was skeptical since almost everything was positive. I decided to call and see for myself and he was very helpful immediately as he asked detailed questions after I told him the make, model, year of my vehicle and my issue. (This is not a given since some mechanics do not know multiple vehicles well enough without looking under the hood!)
I took my vehicle to him and he was friendly, knowledgable, and compassionate about getting my A/C fixed in the middle of summer. He should have charged me for a diagnostic test (A/C recharge) but he quickly noticed that the compressor had locked up (frozen). So, instead he told me he will not charge me for something that would be a waste of money anyways.
I am fairly knowledgable about cars having repaired power steering pumps and other maintenance issues before, but not a compressor, evaporator, etc. So when Akin took me over to another vehicle he was working on to show me why my compressor locked up I really appreciated his time and teaching. He told me that Honda should have made a recall on this but has failed to do so. He also said I could save money by changing just the compressor but I would be back to him in a month to have it fixed again. He said the only way he would work on the vehicle was to change all of the components to the A/C system. But, instead of trying to sell more parts to me he wanted me to go home, do my research and call other mechanics.
I researched parts for this job and called 3 other mechanics. Akin’s price (with a cash discount) was less than a $1000 but I could not find another mechanic that would touch it for under $2000. He told me that the A/Ccomponents came as a kit and would save money that way. One mechanic I spoke with did not even know enough about my vehicle to ask me the right questions. He even told me I only needed to change the compressor which would bring me right back to him weeks later with the same problem.
Akin was straight-forward, honest and dependable without charging me ridiculous fees. I have enjoyed ice cold air in my vehicle since the first week in August and have recommended him to all of my friends. This many 5-star ratings are not a scam and what can you lose by getting an estimate?
